Schuylkill Valley boys win district 3-AA team championship

The Schuylkill Valley High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams brought home a large total of medals from this past weekend’s District 3-AA Championships at Cumberland Valley High School. In addition, the Panther boys captured the team championship, while the girls finished in second place.

Led by silver medalists Andrew Strause, Luke Raudenbush and the 400 free relay team of Isaac Beltran,DelRio, Matt Griesemer, Charlie Pletz and Strause, the Schuylkill Valley boys’ team earned 270.5 team points, finishing a healthy 60.5 points ahead of second place Trinity. Palmyra was third with 175 team points.

The Schuylkill Valley girls’ team had 255 points to finish in second place, 27.5 points behind first place York Suburban, and 13 points ahead of third place Northern.

Strause earned a silver medal in the 50 freestyle in a time of 22.14, and in the 200 free (48.28).

Raudenbush was second in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:00.46.

The 400 free relay team finished second in a time of 3:19.92.

Other medalists for the Schuylkill Valley boys were: Beltran DelRio, 100 fly, third (53.84 seconds), 200 free, fourth (1:47.76); Charlie Pletz, 200 free, fourth (1:50.64), 100 back, seventh (57.32 seconds); Jordan Felix, 50 free, eighth (23.07 seconds).

The Panther 200free relay team of Felix, Beltran DelRio, Strause and Matt Griesemer was fourth with a time of 1:47.76.

Medaling for the Panther girls’ team were: Lexi Glassmire, third, 200 individual medley (2:10.45), fifth, 500 free (5:15.38); Jackie McDevitt, third, 100 breaststroke (1;09.76), seventh, 200 free (2:00.09); Nicole Koonce, fourth, 50 free (24.82 seconds), seventh, 100 free (54.40 seconds); Sarah Strause, sixth, 100 breaststroke (1:10.22); Maddie McDevitt, eighth, 100 breaststroke (1:11.01),.

The Schuylkill Valley girls’ 200 free relay team of Glassmire, Koonce, Jackie McDevitt and Strause was third in a time of 1:39.04.

The Panther 200 medley relay team of Strause, Maddie McDevitt, Zoe Dotterer and Daisy Grace was fourth in a time of 1:53.42.
