The members of the Woman’s Club of Strausstown met recently for their January meeting and were entertained by some homegrown talent, members of the Weaver Family. Two sisters, Sarah, a sixth-grader, and Jacinda, an eighth-grader, performed several selections on the accordion and harmonica, including “Amazing Grace” and “From the Halls of Montezuma.”

Their mother and siblings sang with them on some numbers, and the Woman’s Club members were invited to join in the singing of familiar tunes.

The Weaver children are home-schooled by their mother, Cindy, and take music lessons from “Miss Shoemaker,” a Hamburg resident. The whole family, along with their father, Jim Weaver, frequently entertains at local nursing homes.

The Woman’s Club of Strausstown is now holding its regular meetings at the new Strausstown Community Campus, which is undergoing renovations and making use of more and more of the erstwhile Strausstown Elementary School. Next month’s meeting will be held there on Tuesday (day change), Feb. 12, and is entitled “Mmmmm…Chocolate.” Members are encouraged to bring along recipes for chocolaty treats to share.
