The 2112-13 winter sports season got underway last night with Tip-Off basketball tournaments throughout the country. In the local area, the Hamburg girls hosted Wyomissing in the Hamburg Tip-Off Tournament, while the Schuylkill Valley girls played in the Oley Valley tournament and Tulpehocken also hosted its own tournament.
On the boys’ side, Tulpehocken also played in its own tournament.
In Hamburg, the Lady Hawks played host to Wyomissing and had very little trouble in their opening round game. Sydney Lesher led the Hamburg offense with 16 points and the Hawks defeated Wyomissing, 68-35.
Tara Klee scored 14 points and Hannah Schoenley added 12 for the winners.
Hamburg plays Tri-Valley in the championship game today at 4:30 p.m.
The Tulpehocken girls’ team played host to Lancaster Country Day School in the opneing round of the Tulpehocken Tournament. The Lady Trojans outscored LCDS in the first quarter, 12-4, then went on to win the game, 34-10. Brooke Gordon led the Tulpehocken offense with nine points, while Darian Gordon added seven points.
Tulpehocken will take on Conrad Weiser in the championship game this afternoon at 6 p.m. in the news gym.
The Schuylkill Valley girls were defeated in their opening round game to Oley Valley in the Oley Valley tournament, 38-16. Abby Boyer led the Panther offense with seven points in the game.
The Tulpehocken boys’ team played host to Lancaster Country Day School in the opneing round of the Tulpehocken Tournament. Up by five at halftime, the Trojans outscored LCDS in the third quarter, 19-5, and went on to win the game, 48-24,
Robert Ekvall scored 15 points for Tulpehocken and Bryan Mellon had eight points.
Tulpehocken will take on Susquenita in the championship game in the new Tulpehocken gym at 7:45 p.m.
