A motorcyclist collided head on with a tractor trailer early Dec. 5 in Richmond Township. Fleetwood Police reported that the fatal motorcycle crash on Park Road was about 200 feet west of Lenhart Road.
At about 7:30 a.m., motorcyclist Matthew Bortz, 28, Mohrsville, was observed by witnesses on Park Road illegally passing another westbound vehicle. When Bortz again attempted to pass another westbound vehicle, he entered the eastbound lane and collided head on with an eastbound tractor trailer.
Bortz was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Berks County Coroner’s Office. He was wearing a helmet.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Peter Polletta, 41, Springfield, Mo., was evaluated at the scene by EMS and released without treatment. He was wearing a seatbelt.
Berks County Accident Reconstruction Team, Walnuttown and Fleetwood Fire companies and Fire Police and Fleetwood EMS assisted Fleetwood Police at the scene.
