Kantner’s Tire Service, in Shoemakersville, celebrated its 35th anniversary with a week-long event from Oct. 1-6. Glenn and Jane Roberts purchased the business from Paul I. Kantner in 1977 and kept the locally well-known name. When the business was purchased, there were a total of four employees. Kantner’s now employs 12, including the Roberts’ two sons, Troy and Todd, who now manage the business.
Because of customer loyalty, the Roberts family decided to celebrate by “giving back” to the community. In conjunction with the celebration, there were over 100 prizes awarded, some of which were supplied by local businesses. On Oct. 5, the Shartlesville Grange served free hamburgers and hot dogs to everyone, and members of the Northern Berks 4-H Dairy Club did the same on Oct. 6.
The following is a list of local businesses that provided prizes: Cousins; Fiore; Inn At Orwigsburg; McArdles; Red Robin; The Westy; Hamburg Auto Parts; Thren’s Auto Parts; VIST Bank; Candy’s; Kwik Shoppe; Kuzan’s; Sheetz; Berkleigh Golf Club; Gasser’s Golf; Perry Golf Course; Rich Maiden Golf Course; Sittler’s Golf.
